Server
Side Includes (SSI)
SSI is a server-side scripting language. SSI scripting commands
are embedded within a webpage and are parsed and executed on the
web
server to
generate dynamic HTML pages.
SSI's are used to include information, for example a header or
footer, that can be used on lots of pages. If the pages need to be
updated you simply need to change the SSI and all the pages update
simultaneously.
One practical example of SSI is the random
scriptures SSI immediately below the navigation bar on most pages
within the mickwood.com site. We can start you off with 200 scriptures.
It is really easy to add your own favourite bible verses.
SSI's can also show various environment variables which are
accessible to a server program. You can see some
of the environment variables below.
If you reload / refresh this page (F5) you can see how the various
dynamic elements change.
